Linda Purl

Born in Connecticut, Purl grew up in Japan, working professionally there as an actress, from the age of 11. Work moved her to the US as a teen. Credits include Broadway, Off Broadway. Over 50 plays nationally and internationally and over 45 made for television movies.

She is particularly known for Charlene Matlock on Matlock, Ashley; (Fonzie’s fiancée) on Happy Days and Helene Beesly on The Office (US version).

She was Co-Founder of the Colorado Festival of World Theatre, Executive Director from 2004-2008; Founder of the California International Theatre Festival and served as Artistic Director from 2008-2014.

Purl and Music Director Tedd Firth currently tour in concert. Their fifth and latest album is From My Heart. Purl will be performing the one woman play Crazy Mama off-Broadway September 16-October 18, 2026 at NYC’s, 59 E 59.

Offstage and offscreen, Linda is the proud mother of Lucius Cary.
